Day 1 Itinerary: Outdoor Adventure & Scenic Beauty

Breakfast at [Local Favorite Café]

Your morning in Lincoln, New Hampshire, starts at The White Mountain Bagel Co. a cozy café that’s as much a local institution as it is a favorite among skiers and hikers. There, you can fuel up on fresh, made-from-scratch bagels and hearty breakfast sandwiches.

The vibe is relaxed, the staff friendly. You can grab a classic bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel or a veggie wrap with hummus and know you’re off to a great start. That’s the kind of place where you can easily spend an hour swapping stories with fellow adventurers over coffee.

Morning: Hike the Flume Gorge

That’s exactly where I began my morning in Lincoln. I started with a coffee in hand and a few minutes later, I was hooked. The Flume Gorge trail starts at the visitor center and quickly drops you into a world that feels hidden away.

Flume Gorge

Narrow wooden walkways wind through towering granite walls, waterfalls crash just a few feet away and the lush green forest (or vibrant fall colors in October) surround you. The full 2-mile loop is manageable for anyone, even if you’re not an avid hiker. You’ll climb a few stairs, but the views make up for it.

One moment you’re walking through misty gorge, the next you’re standing at the base of Avalanche Falls, listening to the sound of rushing water echoing off the cliffs.

I took my time there. Stopped for photos, sat on a bench to just be in nature. I didn’t want to leave. It’s peaceful, breathtaking and one of those experiences that sticks with you long after the trip ends. Get there early to beat the crowds and enjoy the quiet. The morning light filtering through the gorge is pure magic

Pro tip: Get there early to beat the crowds and enjoy the quiet. The morning light filtering through the gorge is pure magic.

Lunch Spot: Black Mtn. Burger Co.

After a morning hike at Flume Gorge, you’ll be ready for lunch. Black Mtn. Burger Co. is one of Lincoln’s best-known local restaurants. And once you taste the food, you’ll know why. The vibe is warm and laid-back, with wooden booths, local artwork and a cozy mountain-town feel.

I ordered the “Mountain Climber” burger. It was incredible. Hand-cut fries are crispy and addicting. They have plenty of options for vegetarians, too. If you like craft beer, they’ve got a great rotating tap list with local New Hampshire brews.

That’s the kind of place where you can kick back, recharge and recap your morning adventures before heading back out. The service is friendly, the food satisfying and the portions big. Just what you need after hiking through the White Mountains

Afternoon: Ride the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

After a satisfying lunch, I headed over to Cannon Mountain for one of the most memorable parts of the trip-the Aerial Tramway. I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, but the moment we started ascending, I knew this was something special.

Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway

The tram climbs over 2,000 feet in about 10 minutes, gliding smoothly above the treetops with panoramic views stretching out in every direction. On a clear day, you can see all the way to Vermont and even into Canada- it’s unreal. I found myself glued to the windows the entire ride up, trying to soak in every second.

At the summit, the views somehow get even better. There’s a short walking path that loops around the observation deck, giving you 360° mountain vistas that honestly made me stop and just stand still for a moment. There’s also a little café up top, so if you want to grab a snack or just hang out with a view, it’s perfect.

Whether you’re into photography, hiking, or just love a good scenic ride, this tramway is a must-do in Lincoln. It’s peaceful, breathtaking, and gives you a whole new appreciation for just how wild and beautiful New Hampshire really is.

Sunset Viewpoint: Artists Bluff Trail or Loon Mountain Skyride

After the tram ride, head over to Artists Bluff Trail for a short but rewarding hike. This 1.5-mile loop takes you through a scenic forest and offers stunning views of Echo Lake and the surrounding mountains.

It’s an easy to moderate hike, with a few steeper sections, but the panoramic views at the top are totally worth the effort. The trail is especially beautiful in fall when the foliage is in full color. Don’t forget your camera- you’ll want to capture these incredible vistas!

Dinner Recommendation: The Common Man

After a full day of adventures, The Common Man is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a hearty meal. Located right in the heart of Lincoln, this cozy, rustic restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere.

The menu offers a little bit of everything from classic comfort food like their famous Prime Rib and Mac & Cheese to fresh seafood dishes and tasty burgers. I went for the Lobster Mac & Cheese, and it did not disappoint creamy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. The service is friendly, and the portions are generous, making it a great spot to relax and refuel after a busy day in the White Mountains.

Day 2 Itinerary: Relaxation & Hidden Gems

Morning: Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves

What a perfect way to start your day at The Peg, that local gem that feels like your own backyard. Fresh-brewed coffee and sizzling bacon fill the air as you walk in-the unmistakable scent of a cozy breakfast spot. I went for the classic breakfast platter: eggs, crispy bacon and buttery toast, served with a side of homemade jam. That fuelled me up for the adventure ahead.

Lost River Gorge

Next up: Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves. It’s just a short drive from town-and what a highlight of my trip it was. The gorge itself is just…stunning. You follow a boardwalk through those lush woods, with boulders the size of houses all around you. It feels like you stepped into a fairytale.

And then there are the Boulder Caves. I squeezed through those narrow passages, explored hidden caves and felt like a real adventurer. That mix of nature and exploration is exactly what I love about this place. The cave tunnels can be a bit of a challenge-but totally doable if you’re up for it.

After navigating through the caves and taking in that scenery, I felt like I’d really experienced something special about Lincoln. And that’s exactly what I think everyone should experience-who loves the great outdoors as much as I do.

Midday: Kancamagus Highway Scenic Drive

After the Lost River Gorge adventure, I hit the road for the Kancamagus Highway. That 34-mile stretch of road takes you through the heart of the White Mountains-and the views just get better and better with every turn. You’ll pass rushing rivers, towering peaks and dense forests. I was stopping every few miles to snap photos-or just take a deep breath of that mountain air.

Kancamagus Highway Scenic Drive

The drive is especially stunning in the fall when the leaves change colours-but honestly, it’s beautiful year-round. If you do want to hike, there are plenty of pull-offs with trailheads along the way. Sabbaday Falls and The Rocky Gorge are two of my favourites.

But even if you just drive straight through-you’ll be rewarded with some of the most picturesque views you can imagine. That kind of drive makes you want to roll down the windows and breathe it all in.

Picnic Stop: Sabbaday Falls or Lower Falls

After cruising along the Kancamagus Highway, why not pull over for a picnic? Both Sabbaday Falls and Lower Falls offer perfect spots to relax and enjoy a meal surrounded by nature.

Sabbaday Falls

Sabbaday Falls is a peaceful little spot. A 15-minute walk leads you to a series of beautiful cascades. The picnic area is nestled right in the woods-and has tables to boot.

Lower Falls is a bit more lively-if you’re looking for that. But both spots are just as beautiful-and just as perfect for a picnic.

The Swift River creates a stunning waterfall that flows over smooth granite rocks. The area is popular for picnics, swimming, and simply soaking up the outdoors. With plenty of picnic tables and grills, it’s a perfect place to spend an afternoon.

Both spots offer the perfect balance of nature, beauty, and relaxation — ideal for a peaceful picnic break on your drive.

Afternoon: Explore Lincoln Village Shops & Ice Cream

After your scenic picnic, head into the charming Lincoln Village Shops for a relaxed afternoon of shopping and sightseeing. This cozy little shopping district has a great mix of local boutiques, artisanal shops, and outdoor gear stores perfect for picking up unique souvenirs or gifts. Whether you’re browsing handmade crafts, picking out a cozy sweater, or browsing local art, the vibe is laid-back and welcoming.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, it’s time for ice cream! Stop by Frosty’s, a local favorite where you can indulge in creamy, homemade ice cream in a variety of flavors. Whether you’re craving a classic cone or a decadent sundae, it’s the perfect sweet treat to cool off after a day of exploring.

Optional: Relax in a Spa or Hot Tub Lodge

If you’re looking to unwind after an adventurous day, there’s no better way than by treating yourself to some relaxation. Lincoln has several cozy lodges and spas where you can enjoy a hot tub or a soothing massage.

Whether you’re enjoying the calming atmosphere of a spa or simply soaking in the hot tub, it’s the perfect way to recharge before dinner.

Dinner & Local Brewery or Pub

For dinner, head to one of Lincoln’s favorite spots for a hearty meal and a drink. The Woodstock Inn Brewery is a must-visit, offering a delicious menu of pub fare paired with their own craft brews. Whether you’re craving a juicy burger, fresh seafood, or a warm bowl of chili, this local brewery has something for everyone. The laid-back vibe and friendly staff make it a great place to relax and enjoy the evening.
